THIS season Vanessa Bruno has taken flight. Where in seasons past her collections have exuded an inherent gazelle-like elegance, for spring/summer 2014 she is indulging a youthful spirit more than ever before – and her girl’s youth was spent in the Seventies.
Trousers and tops came in an exuberant matching butterfly print; striped T-shirts and clashing checked skirts had a grown-out-of look, as though she was wearing her PE kit after school; suede came in the form of biker jackets, cropped tops and whip-stitched Capri pants in a retro orange-tan hue; and the shifts, dungarees and playsuits sang “first summer of freedom”. It’s a new unapologetically eccentric aesthetic, made all the more quirky with the mismatched hints of leopard print and fuchsia snakeskin seen on accessories.
