HUNTER has a lot going for it. It has heritage, it has reason (its product – wellingtons – being especially relevant in Britain right now), it has fashion resonance (you can’t move for a Hunter welly on the festival fields), and now it has a new creative director in the shape of Alasdhair Willis – Stella McCartney’s husband – appointed to the role this time last year. It was his decision to bring the brand onto the London Fashion Week schedule and to expand its offering into outerwear and bags. And frankly, during the wettest winter since records began, he couldn’t have picked a better time.
Today, the catwalk was transformed into a water walk as models stomped and clomped and splashed their way down it (the one time sitting on the front row perhaps wasn’t all it was cracked up to be). They did so in sage green ribbed knits with nubbly high necks, wet-weather ponchos, high-heeled wellington boots, clutch bags and duffle coats; in silver quilted puffa jackets and belted short macs and knitted joggers. Focused, practical and in a paint-box palette of shades, it was a great and strong start for a new chapter of this brand.
